What an honor and privilege that Edgar’s Bistro right here at Helms College was asked to contribute to the 2016 Rebuilding Macon cookbook — Let’s Get Cooking. The much-anticipated annual cookbook features more than a dozen recipes from Macon’s best restaurants, and Helms College is proud to be featured with Macon’s most gifted chefs and cooks who generously contributed their recipes for the beautiful, full-color cookbook.
For almost two decades, Rebuilding Macon’s dedicated volunteers have built homes, lives, and communities by helping their neighbors, including low-income homeowners, particularly the elderly and disabled, so that they may continue to live in warmth, safety, and independence. The money raised by Let’s Get Cooking will help build wheelchair ramps, replace roofs, paint homes and much more.
The concept behind Rebuilding Macon closely resembles Goodwill’s roots with founder Dr. Edgar Helms’ vision to off individuals a “hand-up” out of poverty through education and productive work. And today, this vision has come to fruition and his legacy lives on through the success of Goodwill and Helms College.
Along with contributing the featured cover photo, Chef Stuart Hardy, former Assistant Department Chair at The Polly Long Denton School of Hospitality at Macon’s Helms College, shares three of the Bistro’s menu favorites including savory Snapper with Mango Chutney from the Edgar’s summer menu.
