At this year’s 11th Annual Goodwill Gala at the Anderson Conference Center in Macon, patrons are in for a treat: This year’s gala, themed Blue Bayou: A Taste of Louisiana, will focus on Creole and Acadian cuisine, prepared by students from Helms College. Guests can expect an array of delights such as frog legs with sauce picante, alligator and andouille gumbo, bayou short ribs, and bourbon beignets, among many other delectable selections.
The annual event helps to raise funds for the academic and career development programs at Helms College. Thanks to a great partnership with Goodwill Industries, which established Helms College, the gala provides funding for scholarships available to students pursuing an education in the hospitality industry. The gala also provides students with an extraordinary opportunity to stretch their culinary skills by cooking for and serving the guests in attendance. It’s the perfect opportunity for them to showcase their talents for gala guests who see the students’ dedication to their craft up close and personal.
The menu is at the heart of the evening, and the students work hard to design a unique dining experience. The event gives the Helms College student chefs the opportunity to say thank you to generous donors who have helped them reach for their career goals in the restaurant and hospitality industries. In addition, the students interact with gala guests to talk about the dishes they have prepared. It’s an educational experience for dinner guests and budding chefs alike.
A live auction will offer guests the opportunity to bid on a luxurious weekend trip to New Orleans with a stay at the Houmas Plantation House, a private dinner for eight prepared by the Executive Chef at Edgar’s Bistro, and an oil painting by Ginger Concepcion, to name a few of the interesting items. Music will be presented by the AJ Ghent Band to give a true bayou experience. A photo booth will allow guests to capture the fun throughout the evening and provide a memorable souvenir of the gala.
Don’t miss this amazing experience that will truly do good in the community by supporting students eager to get a start in the hospitality industry. For tickets and more information to this special event, visit www.goodwillworks.org/goodwillgala.
